Flats Fishing Mosquito Lagoon
Mosquito Lagoon Flats Fishing
A world class fishery located within an hour of Orlando, Florida and in the shadows of the John F. Kennedy Space Center and NASA thus creating the “Space Coast” in the early 1960’s. Anglers from all over the world travel to Florida yet often overlook the incredible fishing that is so close to the attractions. So close, yet a world away, the flats of Mosquito Lagoon are home to some of the best fly and light tackle angling anywhere. Anglers will test their skills on tailing redfish, spotted seatrout and snook along the beautiful mangrove lined banks of Mosquito Lagoon. Whether traveling to Florida for business or pleasure you owe it to yourself to see the backwater corridors and beautiful flats that hold many of the famous flats species.
Mosquito Lagoon Redfish
The Redfish in Mosquito Lagoon remains consistent year round. During winter and spring the waters are low and clear offering some of the best sightfishing all year. Redfish tend to group up during the cooler weather and offer some spectacular opportunities. As spring turns to summer the water temperature allows us to introduce topwater flies like poppers and gurglers into our arsenal, creating some memorable eats! Our fall transition most often brings higher water which allows the redfish and the poling skiff to reach areas previously too shallow to traverse. We will explore places rarely fished to find redfish happily feeding awaiting a well placed fly. Throughout the year target our Mosquito Lagoon redfish on fly or with hand tied jigs on light tackle. This is the sight fishing pinnacle.
Mosquito Lagoon Spotted Seatrout Fishing
One of the most frustrating and rewarding fish to chase is the Mosquito Lagoon trout. With their numbers rebounding in the Lagoon, we take great care to handle and protect these fish, especially the larger ones. Spotted Seatrout is notoriously ornery and will refuse even the perfectly placed cast. Check your pride at the ramp because these do not care about you or your feelings. The prime months for trout is February through May although we have opportunities year round. If you want the ultimate challenge in fly fishing or test your skills with a hand tied jig, there is nothing like stalking seatout in Mosquito Lagoon.
Mosquito Lagoon Snook Fishing
One of the unsung hero of Mosquito Lagoon is the snook. They are the perfect game fish, lying in wait for a baitfish to make a mistake along the heavy cover of mangrove shorelines. Snook will test your skill and tackle like no other fish in the lagoon. Although our snook are not the big bruisers like farther south you would be surprised at the punishment 25″ snook can impose on you. From pinpoint casts down mangrove shorelines to explosive eats and powerful runs pulling you into gnarly cover, they are The Gamefish.
Mosquito Lagoon Tarpon Fishing
The waters of the Mosquito and Indian River Lagoons create one of the best juvenile tarpon estuaries anywhere in the world. During the warm months of summer our tarpon greet us during the morning hours along calm mangrove shorelines eager to take a fly. We fish small minnow imitations or top water gurglers for these rolling fish. There really is nothing like a tarpon taking flight to begin a great day on the water fishing Mosquito Lagoon.
